SIPO Announces Top Ten Foreign Patent Applicants in China

According to the China Daily, the Chinese SIPO (State Intellectual Property Office) recently made public a list of the top ten foreign companies operating in China in terms of patent applications in the first half of 2005. Japan led the way in the country standings, as six Japanese companies managed to get on the list. Korea was represented by three companies, while the only non-Asian company on the list was Philips. Matsushita occupied the top spot with 1,634 applications, followed by Samsung with 1,505 and Philips with 1,325. There was a clear separation between the top three and the rest of the pack, as fourth-placed Sony only had 700 applications. Toshiba, LG, Seiko Epson, Fujitsu, Canon, and Samsung SDI rounded out the top ten.
